Robert
E. Boyer was born in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to Cicero,
Ilinois when he was six years old.
At
the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Army Air
Force, where he took numerous technical courses. He was
assigned to the 14th Air Forcethe prewar "Flying
Tigers," and received decorations from both the U.S.
and Chinese governements.
After
the war, he attended the Art Institute of Chicago, where
he studied fine arts. Finding it difficult to support his
growing family with an art career, he worked in a series
of jobs, culminating in a mangerial position at a tool &
die/metal stamping company.
Spending
21 years in various art and technical schools, he recieved
a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Over
40 years ago, Boyer was instrumental in promoting the resurrection
of pyrographic art.

This
site is for the advancement, help, advice and techniques given to
neophyte and professional pyrographic artists. My goal is to share
information with other artists and not hold back on any techniques
that will further our pyrographic art. Remember, don't be concerned,
because no one can steal your talent.
This
will be a mutual help site and we will welcome any pyrographic artist
or instructor who wishes to share any information that will help
any others in the profession. This includes pyrographic artists
in classes, clubs and shows. When I started in the pyrographic area
several decades ago, no one seemed to know what the word "pyrography"
was. Even when the internet became a resource, when I entered the
key word "pyrography" into search engines, there was no indication
that people had ever heard of the word "pyrography." Now there
are many artists, clubs and dealers who use the term and it is now
internationally known. Understand, I am not taking credit for starting
pyrography, as it has been around for centuries, but I modestly
hope that I have substantially promoted its modern day "renaissance."
Many
people have tried to write about the history of Pyrography. Most
did not spend the research time, but copied from the works of others.
I spent twenty years in research and I hope you find it as interesting
and as facinating as I did.
The
Pyrographic Art School is a free informational
pyrographic art website for all those who wish to learn more about
the burning art: History, Equipment, Techniques and Creativity.
This site is financed by Robert Boyer, owner and manufacturer of
the Detail Master
burning systems.
Within,
you will see links to other websites. These are sites that will
contribute to our efforts when offering this free information. You
can help, also, by ordering supplies from these sites; That will
give us credit with these benefactors.
Thank
you for your support.
